Residents at John Obay Beach have raised concerns after an unidentified boat made landfall at the Beach last night. Local residents suspect that the vessel is carrying cocaine.
In a video posted on Facebook, residents expressed concerns, noting that the boat owners attempted to cause disturbances amid the raised concerns.
Few days ago, Sierra Leone has recalled its ambassador from neighboring Guinea after seven suitcases containing suspected cocaine were found in an embassy vehicle.
On Monday, Guinean authorities impounded a vehicle belonging to Sierra Leone’s embassy and detained its occupants on suspicion of possessing “substances suspected to be cocaine,” Sierra Leone’s Foreign Minister Alhaji Musa Timothy Kabba said.
“In light of this serious development, the government has urgently recalled Sierra Leone’s ambassador to Guinea, Ambassador Mr. Alimamy Bangura, to Freetown to provide a full account of the incident,” he added.
The recalled envoy was not in the car and is not under arrest, the minister said.
John Obey Beach (sometimes shortened to John Obey) is a village in Sierra Leone, 20 miles (32 km) south of Freetown, in the western peninsula region.

In July 2010, the local community at John Obey formed a partnership with sustainable tourism organization Tribewanted and are together building an eco community at the beach. The project has up to 30 visitors staying at any given time in earthbag domes, designed and constructed in partnership with Cal-Earth, and taking part in community life.
