Abuja, October 23, 2024, President of Nigeria has approved eight key actions aimed at enhancing administrative efficiency to fulfill the promises made to Nigerians. The decision, announced today, reflects the government’s commitment to streamlining operations and ensuring effective governance across key sectors.

The approved actions include significant restructuring in the ministries, reassignment of key officials, and new appointments:

  1. Ministry of Niger Delta Development Renamed: The Ministry of Niger Delta Development has been renamed the Ministry of Regional Development, with a broader mandate to oversee all Regional Development Commissions, ensuring a more inclusive and comprehensive approach to regional growth.
  2. Sports Development Revamped: The Ministry of Sports Development has been wound up, and its responsibilities transferred to the National Sports Commission. This move aims to foster a more vibrant sports economy and streamline the management of sports in Nigeria.
  3. Ministries Merged for Synergy: The Federal Ministry of Tourism and the Federal Ministry of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy have been merged into the newly established Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism, and the Creative Economy. The merger is designed to boost the nation’s creative industries while promoting tourism and cultural heritage.
  4. Ministerial Reshuffling: In a significant reshuffling, ten ministers have been reassigned to new portfolios, reflecting the administration’s strategy to align skills with national priorities.
  5. Ministerial Departures: The President also announced that five ministers have been discharged from their positions, thanking them for their service to the nation.
  6. New Ministerial Nominations: Seven new ministers have been nominated for Senate confirmation, bringing fresh perspectives and expertise to key sectors.
  7. Shehu Dikko Appointed as Chairman of National Sports Commission: As part of the revamp in the sports sector, Shehu Dikko has been appointed as Chairman of the National Sports Commission, tasked with driving Nigeria’s sports economy forward.
  8. Sunday Dare Appointed Special Adviser: Former Minister of Youth and Sports, Sunday Dare, has been appointed as Special Adviser to the President on Public Communication and Orientation under the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation.

the President expressed his gratitude to the outgoing members of the Federal Executive Council, commending them for their dedication and service to the nation. He also called on the newly appointed and reassigned ministers to view their roles as a call to serve the Nigerian people, urging them to invest their abilities and efforts in the actualization of the government’s priorities.
