Morray Alpha, a young man caught in the crossfire of political turmoil, has been forced to flee Sierra Leone after being falsely implicated in the August 10 demonstration. The accusations against him appear to be rooted in his father’s prominent position within the opposition All People’s Congress (APC) party.
In a detailed account, Morray explained how he was accused of being one of the key figures behind the August 10 protest, despite having no involvement. “I was implicated in the demonstration on political grounds,” Morray stated. “I was accused of partaking in the August 10 demonstration by opposition supporters, which led the police to declare me wanted.”
The situation escalated rapidly when a friend urgently knocked on Morray’s door, warning him that the police were on their way to arrest him. “I was sleeping when my friend knocked on my door and told me the police were looking for me, saying I was one of the main people behind the demonstration. They were heading to my house,” Morray recounted. Fearing wrongful arrest, Morray had no choice but to flee.
In a stroke of luck, he found refuge in the home of a pastor. “I ran to a stranger’s house, which luckily turned out to be a pastor’s home. He rescued me,” Morray said. The pastor offered him temporary shelter and a safe haven as Morray explained his dire predicament.
The political climate not only forced Morray into hiding but also displaced his father, a staunch APC member. “My father had to move to a neighboring country, Guinea, in fear of being arrested,” Morray added. The incident highlights the intense political tension in Sierra Leone, where affiliations can lead to dangerous and unfounded accusations
. Morray’s story underscores the precarious position of those connected to political opposition, facing threats and forced displacement merely due to their associations.
