Fatmata Claire Carlton-Hanciles, the Executive Director of the Sierra Leone Legal Aid Board, has been awarded Outstanding Performance Award at the National Development Awards held at the Bintumani Hotel. Carlton-Hanciles expressed her gratitude to God and congratulated the Board for the achievement.
The Sierra Leone Legal Aid Board is the largest legal aid organization in the country, with offices and paralegals in fourteen of sixteen districts. The Board has been credited with transforming the provision of primary justice services through the work of paralegals in remote communities across the country. It is also one of the lead organizations in implementing Goal 16 of the Sustainable Development Goals.
Carlton-Hanciles, who is passionate about the poor and vulnerable, has been credited with transforming the scheme into the largest legal aid organization in the country. She has won dozens of awards for her work, including being named one of the 50 Most Influential Sierra Leonean Women in 2019 and 2020
