As the world meets for this year’s COP29 in Baku city, Azerbaijan. Michael Nabieu, a UNICEF Sierra Leone seasoned youth climate change advocate and Co-founder of FAIECY-SL has taken a global stage in addressing world leaders to deliver on their commitment towards climate crisis particularly in a global south countries like Sierra Leone where the impact of climate crisis is taking lives every year.
In a press conference organized by UNICEF at COP29, Michael shared his story from being a climate change survivor to a national climate change leader highlighting his amazing work with UNICEF Sierra Leone and the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary School Education(MBSSE) in integrating climate change as a subject in the country’s school curriculum, leading a successful advocacy for the government of Sierra Leone through the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change to signed the Declaration of the Children and Youth Climate Action document in Sierra Leone and Co-founding a youth led organization called FAIECY-SL to promote Agro Ecology and Climate Education in Sierra Leone. Michael’s work is currently trending on BBC and the Guardian Angel Newspaper where he got future on his work as a youth from a low income country and placing Sierra Leone at the top in terms of youth participation in combating climate change.
