With the support of the European Union, Sierra Leone has launched “The Media We Want” manifesto.
Manuel Muller, the EU Ambassador to Sierra Leone, pledged continued support for the media in the country to strengthen its capacity and protect media freedom and pluralism.
The launch was made possible through the Sierra Leone Democracy Strengthening Programme, funded by the EU and implemented by International IDEA. The manifesto outlines realistic actions and strategies to advance media freedom, professionalism, viability, gender equality, inclusivity, safety and security of journalists, and media literacy in Sierra Leone.
The Head of the Sierra Leone Country Programme at International IDEA, Dr. Idrissa Mamoud Tarawallie, emphasized the importance of public interest media for democratic strengthening. The President of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists, Ahmed Sahid Nasralla, hopes that the manifesto will serve as a framework for future interventions in the media sector in Sierra Leone.
