Phebean Swill, a renowned broadcaster and news anchor, has accomplished a remarkable feat by graduating with an Honours Degree (First Class) in Media and Journalism from Limkokwing University of Creative Technology. In recognition of her achievements in the field of creative technology, she was honored with the Tan Sri Limkokwing Award for Creativity and Innovation.
Phebean’s journey in the broadcasting industry began in 2009, when she was only 17 years old. She started as a Disk Jockey at Eagle Africa Radio, where she entertained and informed listeners of various community radio stations. In 2010 and 2011, she rapidly rose the ranks and became the only female club DJ in Freetown – DJ Swill. Later, she added news reading to her repertoire, anchoring for prominent radio stations and serving as a Master of Ceremony for entertainment galas.
Today, Phebean is a well-established presenter and news anchor at Africa Young Voices (AYV) television. She has acquired vast experience as a radio and television presenter, producer, and reporter, having worked with media institutions like Capital Radio, Free Radio, Star Radio and Television, the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) radio and television, Africa Independent Television (AIT), and Raypower FM in Sierra Leone and Lagos, Nigeria. Her hard work and dedication have made her a household name in Sierra Leone and beyond.
Phebean’s versatility has allowed her to host several events, including the first-ever reality TV show in Sierra Leone – Big Sister Salone, the first Miss Correctional, co-host of the biggest reality TV show in Sierra Leone – Housemates Salone, and the biggest musical festival in the subregion – Ecofest. Her platform has also been used to raise important issues affecting women, girls, and young people, leading to her being the recipient of numerous local and international awards and recognition.
In addition to being a Mandela Washington Fellow 2021 and a member of the International Leadership Association, Phebean is also a Tony Elumelu Foundation Entrepreneurship Programme Alumna 2019. Her enrollment and subsequent graduation with an Honours Degree (First Class) in Media and Journalism from Limkokwing University of Creative Technology only solidifies her position as a leader in her field.
