Kamil Conteh will join Middlesbrough following the expiration of his Watford contract this summer

Middlesbrough have announced the signing of Sierra Leone international midfielder Kamil Conteh. The 19-year-old will join the club later this summer on a free when his contract with Watford expires.

Conteh spent time on trial with Boro earlier in the season, playing for the under-23s against Nottingham Forest. And he impressed enough to earn himself a contract on Teesside. The central midfielder is also capable of playing on the right-hand side too.

Conteh will join Boro when his Watford contract expires on June 30. He spent four years with the Hornets having originally been part of Crystal Palace’s youth set-up. He earned his first professional contract at Vicarage Road and debuted for them in this season’s FA Cup, playing 16 minutes against Leicester City.

He would then go on loan to National League South side Braintree Town where he made 11 appearances and netted one goal. Born in London, he was eligible to play for Sierra Leone on the international stage and was handed his maiden cap in March of this year. He’s to date got three caps for the national side.

A prospect for the future who is likely to initially play for the youth sides, Conteh is Boro’s latest scouting expedition for young talent outside of Teesside to strengthen their academy. Players such as Djed Spence and Jeremy Sivi have been successfully scouted and brought to the club having been released by London-based clubs previously. Others like Isaiah Jones and Sam Folarin were scouted from Tooting and Mitcham playing senior non-league football.
