Youth activist Sheku Foryoh has declared his intention to contest for the Young Diaspora leadership position within the All People’s Congress (APC), as the party prepares for internal elections among its overseas members.
Foryoh, who is based in the diaspora, says his decision to seek the position is driven by a desire to strengthen youth participation, unity, and engagement within the APC’s international structures. He believes young party members living abroad can play a stronger role in shaping the party’s future and supporting its activities at home and overseas.
Speaking to supporters, Foryoh said his focus would be on inclusiveness, capacity building, and effective communication among young APC members in the diaspora. He added that the position should serve as a bridge between young supporters abroad and the party’s leadership in Sierra Leone.
The APC Young Diaspora structure is responsible for coordinating youth activities, mobilising support, and promoting the party’s ideals among Sierra Leoneans living outside the country. It also serves as a platform for young members to contribute ideas, resources, and advocacy to the party’s overall agenda.
Political observers say diaspora-based party groups continue to play an important role in Sierra Leone’s politics, especially through fundraising, advocacy, and policy discussions. Youth wings, in particular, are seen as key to sustaining long-term party growth.
As the leadership race continues, party members are expected to assess candidates based on their vision, organisational skills, and ability to represent young people across different countries. The election date has not yet been publicly announced.
Foryoh has called on supporters to engage peacefully in the process and to prioritise unity and party discipline as the APC prepares for future national political activities.
