Young Nigerian who was rejected by 7 scholarships finally wins huge award to study in UK

A young and brilliant Nigerian man has finally won a scholarship after reject seven times in a row. Kelechi Chima became one of the recipients of the Rhodes Scholarship Award for West African Students.

Kelechi Chima graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the University of Nigeria, West Africa. After his Medicine degree, the young Doctor applied for 7 scholarships but was denied.

He did not give up nor lost focus until his dream of studying abroad was miraculously achieved when clinched the 2023 Rhodes Scholarship Award for West African Students.

TheĀ Rhodes Scholarship awards full sponsorship and a Ā£17,310 yearly stipend to students to earn a Masterā€™s degree from the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom. Application for the scholarship opened in June 2022.

Kelechi Chima who shared his achievement on LinkedIn listed the scholarship he had previously applied for before finally winning the 2023 Rhodes Scholarships for West African Students, he said:

Festus currently serves as the Secretary General of the Africa Youth Leaders movement which is a network of youth between the ages of 20 ā€“ 30 years who have shown achievement, leadership potential and commitment to make a difference. Festus is also the Africa Focal Point of Youth for Change Initiative, which is a platform through which young people can access resources, be empowered and given the opportunity to grow to become useful members of society who will participate in the development of their communities and nation.
