A young and brilliant Nigerian man has finally won a scholarship after reject seven times in a row. Kelechi Chima became one of the recipients of the Rhodes Scholarship Award for West African Students.

Kelechi Chima graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the University of Nigeria, West Africa. After his Medicine degree, the young Doctor applied for 7 scholarships but was denied.

He did not give up nor lost focus until his dream of studying abroad was miraculously achieved when clinched the 2023 Rhodes Scholarship Award for West African Students.

The Rhodes Scholarship awards full sponsorship and a £17,310 yearly stipend to students to earn a Master’s degree from the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom. Application for the scholarship opened in June 2022.

Kelechi Chima who shared his achievement on LinkedIn listed the scholarship he had previously applied for before finally winning the 2023 Rhodes Scholarships for West African Students, he said:

Kelechi’s achievement is a boost for all students who are facing rejection to keep fighting as it is not over until it is over.
