The deplorable condition of the Makama Road continues to raise serious concerns among residents, especially during the rainy season when movement becomes extremely difficult and risky.
Abie Nancy Sesay Conteh, Advocacy and Communication Officer for the National Commission for Children North, has narrated a painful experience linked to the poor state of the roads.
She says she lost a five-month pregnancy between 2021 and 2022 while travelling on a motorbike to access medical care during her antenatal visits.
According to her, the journey through the bad road conditions made access to timely healthcare extremely difficult.
She described the Makama Road as dangerous and life-threatening, noting that it continues to affect residents in Makeni, especially pregnant women.
Madam Conteh is now calling on government authorities and relevant stakeholders to urgently rehabilitate the road to prevent any further tragedies, especially in the rainy season.
