White House Opens Briefings to New Media Outlets

The White House is introducing a new policy that allows “new media” outlets and content creators to participate in press briefings. This change was announced by White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt during her first briefing on Tuesday. She stated that President Trump is ready to adapt the administration to the current media landscape. “We welcome independent journalists, podcasters, and social media influencers,” she said.

Leavitt also mentioned that the White House will restore press privileges for dozens of outlets whose credentials were revoked by the previous administration, including about 440 journalists. The seats in the briefing room, previously reserved for White House staff, will now be occupied by members of the new media. These new media representatives will have the opportunity to ask the first question during briefings. On Tuesday, this privilege was given to Mike Allen from Axios and Matt Boyle from Breitbart.

“As long as you are creating news content of the day and are a legitimate independent journalist, you are welcome to cover this White House,” Leavitt added. These changes follow President Trump’s preference for interviews with podcasters, content creators, and other internet personalities over mainstream media outlets during his campaign. “It’s essential to our team that we share President Trump’s message everywhere,” Leavitt emphasized on Tuesday.
