WhatsApp is set to revolutionize messaging with its new ‘Channels’ feature, taking inspiration from Telegram. The feature, currently under construction, aims to entertain a larger audience by allowing several groups with similar interests to come together.
Similar to broadcasting channels on Telegram and Instagram, WhatsApp’s parent company, Meta, is developing the ‘Channels’ feature. It will be located under the ‘Status’ tab on WhatsApp and will be known as ‘Updates’. Users will be able to subscribe to channels of their interest and receive information related to those topics.
According to rumors, the feature is being developed for both Android and iOS platforms. Users will be able to search for different channels and react to messages, as well as participate in polls. However, only admins and invited members will receive messages sent on a particular channel.
While end-to-end encryption may not be available for messages sent on channels due to their public nature, it won’t compromise the end-to-end encryption of regular WhatsApp chats. The release date of this new feature has not been officially communicated yet, so users will have to wait for further updates.
