The United Nations has launched a Youth Advisory Group (YAG) in Sierra Leone, aimed at empowering the country’s future leaders.

The YAG was launched on June 1, 2023, in Freetown, and was attended by heads of UN agencies and the Minister of Youth Affairs, Mohamed Orman Bangura.

The group comprises 12 members who are highly enthusiastic about being part of the initiative. The YAG will work with the UN country team to implement programs that will advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and promote the well-being of young Sierra Leoneans.

During the launch, Babatunde Ahonsi, the UN Resident Coordinator in Sierra Leone, welcomed and thanked the YAG members. He also gave them an opportunity to express their priorities on how they intend to contribute to UN youth programs in Sierra Leone. This initiative is expected to provide a platform for young people in Sierra Leone to participate in decision-making processes that affect their lives and future.
