UAE Distributes 1,000 Food Baskets to Support Over 5,500 Sudanese Refugees in Chad
The United Arab Emirates has distributed 1,000 food baskets to Sudanese refugees in Chad who are facing dire conditions due to the ongoing crisis in Sudan. This initiative aligns with the UAE’s commitment to addressing the priorities of affected Sudanese communities and ensuring effective aid delivery to those in urgent need.
The distributed food baskets meet the essential needs of over 5,500 Sudanese refugees. Each basket contains items such as rice, flour, sugar, and tea, and the distribution was conducted in coordination with local authorities and humanitarian organizations in Chad to ensure aid reaches the most vulnerable.
The food baskets were distributed to Sudanese refugees residing in the Ab Gadam camp in the city of Abeche and in the Adré region on the Chad-Sudan border.
Chad is the largest host country for Sudanese refugees, having received over 630,000 refugees since April 2023. Women and children account for 89% of the registered refugees.
The UAE is among the leading contributors to humanitarian aid. Since the beginning of the Sudanese crisis in 2023, the UAE has provided $230 million in aid, including 10,100 tons of food and medical supplies through 190 humanitarian flights.
Additionally, the UAE pledged $100 million at the “Paris Donor Conference” in April 2024, allocating $70 million to humanitarian organizations and $30 million to support Sudanese refugees in neighboring countries such as Chad, Uganda, South Sudan, and Ethiopia. In September 2024, the UAE launched new humanitarian initiatives in Chad and contributed $10.25 million to the United Nations to support Sudanese women affected by the ongoing crisis.
This reflects the UAE’s steadfast commitment to fostering international solidarity and responding to humanitarian crises worldwide.
