Isha Johansen, the former president of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), has established a football training center for female inmates at the Women’s Correctional Centre in Freetown.
The center was constructed with support from “Fashion for Change” and FIFA Secretary General, Fatma Samoura, and will be equipped with sewing machines for embroidery work.
During the unveiling ceremony, Johansen thanked her team and Fashion for Change for their support, stating that the center’s purpose is to reform inmates using football. The facility will also be used as a classroom to teach coaching and refereeing skills, coordinated by the Sierra Leone Football Association. The Confederation of African Football will provide licensed courses to empower young women through football. Johansen hopes the center will help empower female inmates and promote positive rehabilitation.
