Freetown, Sierra Leone – The Sierra Leone Maritime Administration (SLMA) has launched a two-day workshop aimed at developing a comprehensive five-year strategic plan to elevate the nation’s maritime sector. Held from October 30-31, 2024, at Fabulous Resort, the event convened key SLMA stakeholders under the theme, “Strengthening Our Maritime Sector Through Strategic Vision and Leadership.”

The workshop focuses on defining strategic priorities that will reinforce maritime safety, strengthen regulatory frameworks, and promote sustainable economic growth. The gathering is also part of an effort to align SLMA’s objectives with national and international maritime standards, positioning the sector as a significant driver of national development.

In his opening address, the Executive Director of SLMA underscored the importance of the initiative, stating, “This gathering allows us to evaluate our progress, address ongoing challenges, and develop a concrete roadmap for the future. Our aim is to ensure that the maritime sector becomes a key driver of national development while maintaining high safety and operational standards.”

Participants engaged in collaborative sessions aimed at fostering innovation, optimizing resources, and setting measurable goals. The focus areas included vessel registration, safety enforcement, environmental sustainability, and capacity building to support the evolving needs of Sierra Leone’s maritime sector.
