The leader of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), Babadi Kamara, visited players of Koya Queens FC on Monday, 1 December 2025 at the 34 Military Hospital in Freetown. The visit was aimed at showing support and solidarity after the women’s team suffered a serious road accident. Sierraloaded

The Koya Queens players were returning to Freetown when their vehicle met with a crash while travelling to Kenema for a league match against Kahunla Rangers on Saturday. Several players sustained injuries, some serious enough to require hospitalisation.

During the hospital visit, President Kamara sat with injured players and spoke with medical staff. He offered words of comfort and encouragement, promising that the SLFA stands firmly behind the team. He praised the players for their bravery and resilience, reminding them of their important role in representing Sierra Leone — not only at club level but on international platforms too.

According to the attending physician, Dr. Joseph Edwin Kanu, the players are responding well to treatment and their condition is stable. He said the recovery process is going smoothly. The doctor also praised the hospital team for acting quickly and professionally. Some of the injured players are expected to leave the hospital soon, pending routine X-rays scheduled for Tuesday.

President Kamara reassured Koya Queens FC, their fans and the entire women’s football community that the SLFA will maintain support throughout the recovery period. “We cannot wait to see you all back in your boots and jerseys,” he said. “We look forward to seeing you on the pitch again soon.”

The SLFA boss emphasised that the welfare of players — particularly female footballers — is a top priority. He committed to standing by them “every step of the way” until they are healthy and ready to return to action.

The visit by Kamara brings hope to Koya Queens FC and sends a strong message about the support for women’s football in Sierra Leone. Fans and the public are urged to rally behind the players as they recover.
