The Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) has paid a courtesy visit to the Minister of Finance, Sheku Ahmed Fantamadi Bangura, as part of efforts to strengthen cooperation between the media and the government.

The visit was made by the National Executive of SLAJ, led by its president, during a meeting at the Ministry of Finance in Freetown. The discussion focused on media development, economic reporting, and possible collaboration between the ministry and the journalists’ body.

During the meeting, the SLAJ leadership informed the minister about plans for the association’s 2026 Annual General Meeting and National Media Night, which is expected to take place in Makeni City. The association appealed to the ministry to support the award for Outstanding Reporting on the Economy, aimed at encouraging journalists to focus more on economic and financial reporting.

Minister Bangura welcomed the visit and thanked the journalists for their engagement, noting that the media plays an important role in national development, especially in reporting on economic issues that affect the country. He said strong journalism helps promote transparency and accountability in governance.

Both sides agreed on the need for continued cooperation between the Ministry of Finance and the media to improve public understanding of government policies and economic programmes.

The meeting ended with a commitment to maintain regular dialogue to support professional journalism and national development.
