The National Water Resources Management Agency (NWRMA) has inched closer to finalizing its 2026–2030 roadmap, after a major validation session convened on Wednesday, 3 December 2025 at the Agency’s Conference Room.

Rather than just reviewing policy drafts, the meeting evolved into a broader discussion about the future of Sierra Leone’s water security. Sector specialists, institutional partners and technical experts came together to assess the draft Strategic Development Plan (SDP), which lays out ambitious goals for climate resilience, institutional strengthening, sustainable water management and national-wide reforms.

In his opening remarks, Director General Ing. Pierre Palmer underscored the collective responsibility in shaping the roadmap. He commended attendees as representing “some of the best minds in Sierra Leone’s water and natural resources sector,” urging them to scrutinize every section to make sure the plan aligns with national needs and global standards.

During the session, participants worked through technical reviews, heard in-depth presentations and broke into smaller groups — with the aim of bridging policy gaps and improving coordination vital for effective water governance. Many underscored that inclusive consultation remains critical for long-term sustainability, particularly as communities face escalating climate-driven water challenges.

With the validation phase now concluded, NWRMA will refine the draft before its official adoption. Once formalised, the 2026–2030 SDP is expected to serve not only as the Agency’s internal guide but also as the national reference for strengthening water resources management and building resilience against environmental change.
