The Hon. Minister of Internal Affairs and Chief Immigration Officer launched the Migration Information & Data Analysis System (MIDAS) at the Gbalamuya border crossing point with Guinea in Kambia District of Sierra Leone. MIDAS is a digital system that captures travellers’ biographic and biometric data, which facilitates evidence-based decision-making on migration. The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has been instrumental in the development and implementation of MIDAS in Sierra Leone. The system is designed to take a database on all travelers in and out of Sierra Leone through the Sierra Leone-Guinea-border crossing-point. MIDAS enables the government to more effectively monitor those entering and exiting their territory while providing a sound statistical basis for migration policy-related planning. The IOM Development Fund has been supporting the development of MIDAS in Sierra Leone and other countries across Africa, Asia, and the Americas. The IOM Development Fund supports development where it is most needed
