Sierra Leone was represented by the Environment Protection Agency (EPA-SL) at the official opening of the Centre of Excellence for Biodiversity and Ecosystems in West Africa (CEBio-Eco/WA), on July 11–12, 2024, at the Hotel Terrou-Bi Dakar, Senegal, and hosted by the Centre de Suivi Ecologique (CSE).
The Observatory for Biodiversity and Protected Areas in West Africa (OBAPAO) intervention areas is to support policy and decision-making on matters on the conservation of biodiversity, and the sustainable management of protected areas in West Africa through promoting scientific data and building capacities across all sixteen (16) countries in the ECOWAS region.
This participation was to foster strong collaboration by integrating relations with Member States, especially in supporting the Global Biodiversity Framework Kunming Montréal (GBF-KM) implementation. This collaboration will serve as a major tool of the sub-regional project, supporting global biodiversity commitments, particularly in implementing the National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) at national level
