After reuniting spirits, the Ladies Patriots of Sierra Leone faced Ghana at the Tawafa Balewa Square for an 87 run win in the glowing Lagos sun.

The ladies won the toss and opted to bat first, posting 136 runs for the loss of one wicket in 20 overs. They set a target of 137 for the Ghanaians who only replied with 49 runs all out in 12.2 overs.

Sierra Leone’s Fatu Pessima won the Player of the Match award after her exemplary performance.

On Monday, the Ladies opened the Nigeria Invitational Tournament with a 42 run loss against the host.

Sierra Leone won the toss and opted to field. The Nigerians capitalized on the Ladies’ poor fielding and scored 131 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in 20 overs. Salome Sunday led the Nigerian side with 63 runs while Captain Blessing Etim went for 28.

Sierra Leone replied with 89 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs. Opening batswoman Mabinty King scored 29 runs while Ann Marie Kamara went for 27.

Captain Etim bagged the Woman of the Match award after Rwanda had defeated Ghana by 82 runs.

Rwanda will host Sierra Leone in the morning hours while the Gambia takes on Ghana in the afternoon. Teams will rest on Thursday for continuity on Friday with Nigeria hosting Ghana in the first match. In the second match on Friday, Rwanda will welcome the Gambia.

Sierra Leone will rest on Friday for their third match against the Gambia on Saturday. The third place and the final match of the tournament will take place on Saturday. The visiting teams will depart Nigeria on Sunday.

According to Sarah Johnson, the match against Rwanda is going a tight match but the Ladies Patriots are well prepared to secure their second win in the T20 series as Sierra Leone want to leave a landmark history in the Africa Cup Cricket series. She noted that in the first game the female Patriots lost to the host Nigeria was a beat disappointing, but female players have put that back in their minds and now looking forward to the Rwanda clash because key things affected the female team one has to do with the pitch, travel challenges, and the Weather conduction as well.

Leonard Nhamburo the head coach of the Rwanda female Cricket team they well prepared to take on the Sierra Leone female patriot’s team and that was the first win they secured.

“It a good win against Ghana what we are doing is to take match by match as they come winning against Ghana we not going to be complacent and we have to go hard against Sierra Leone female Patriots Cricket team and to see how best we continue to push in  the tournament.”

He noted they are not scared of any team in the T20 series in Nigeria, but looking at records the host Nigeria is the only team that has been given the hard fight, we need to up our games whenever we meet them in such a tournament.

The tournament is a round-robin as the first, second and third is going to be considered from the first rounds, and the best two play the finals to get a winner for the Nigeria T20 Series.
