Women in Sierra Leone continue to break records with Salamatu Jagitay, a brilliant Sierra Leonean lady and student of the IPAM University clinching the presidency position at the just concluded student Union election with 245 votes which make 72 percent of the total vote counts. Salamatu Jagitay is among the strong women in Sierra Leone who continue to break barriers.
Salamatu Jagitay a brilliant student of the Institute of Public Administration and Management has scripted a new history in the archives by becoming the first female student union president in the University.
Salamatu who is also known as “political Jackie Chan” won the election with a landslide victory after she had 245 votes which make 72 percent of the overall votes and she was pronounced the winner on Saturday, December 3rd, 2022.
She was awarded as the most influential student of 2021/2022 by the Student’s Union Body.
The just-elected president affirmed that leaders instill in their people a hope for success and a belief in themselves. Positive leaders empower people to accomplish their goals.
IPAM’s most popular students at the moment by all indications emphasize the need to uplift, support, and established a good working platform with students and administration. She vehemently asserted that the call to serve her colleague student is a blessing and one she’ll carry with all seriousness and utmost respect.
According to the manifesto that she used to campaign, she will first look at student welfare as that is her utmost priority and will look to mitigate the transportation constraints faced by students by providing a student bus that the university will use to transport students. She also promised to provide an ultra-modern canteen where students will feel relatively safe to eat. In order to restore the reading culture, Salamatu promise to provide a library that is equipped with learning materials and meaningful novels. She is also a person that is full of inspiration and so she plans to mentorship programs at the university.
As radical inclusion is a component that made up his manifesto, she would stand and lobby for the physically challenged. She is also exploring more ideas to enhance students’ performance and make sure a higher academic overall performance is achieved.
