Kenya’s Sabastian Sawe has made marathon history after becoming the first man to run under two hours in an official race.

He won the 2026 London Marathon in a time of 1 hour, 59 minutes and 30 seconds, breaking the previous world record by 65 seconds.

The 29-year-old pulled away in the final stages of the race to seal a dramatic victory in London.

Ethiopia’s Yomif Kejelcha finished second in 1:59:41 in his marathon debut, while Uganda’s Jacob Kiplimo came third in 2:00:28, also inside the old record time.

In the women’s race, Ethiopia’s Tigst Assefa defended her title in a record time of 2:15:41.

The race is now being described as one of the greatest days in marathon history, with multiple athletes breaking previous limits.
