Customers at one of Freetown’s popular coastal dining spots can now settle their bills using mobile money, following a new partnership between telecom operator QCell and LOR Restaurant.

The agreement allows diners at the Peninsula Highway establishment to make direct payments using QCell’s mobile financial service, QMoney.

The move reflects a growing push toward cashless transactions within Sierra Leone’s hospitality and retail sectors, as mobile operators compete to integrate digital wallets into everyday consumer habits.

To use the service, diners can process payments through the QM Salone application, which has been updated to include localized merchants under its standard billing and booking features.

Financial technology analysts in the region note that while mobile money has seen rapid adoption for peer-to-peer transfers and utility payments, widespread integration into the formal restaurant and entertainment sector has historically faced slower traction due to infrastructure limits.

The expansion of digital payment options along the Peninsula’s commercial corridor is seen as a tactical step by network providers to capture a higher volume of premium merchant transactions, reducing reliance on cash for both business owners and patrons.
