Project 1808 Founder Alhaji U Njai Introduces Master Weaver Fina Kamara Ahead of Kabala Science Festival

Founder of Project 1808, Inc., Alhaji U Njai, has introduced Madam Fina Kamara, a respected master handweaver from Kabala, as one of the facilitators for the upcoming National Science and Leadership Festival.

Madam Kamara is a long-time resident of Kabala in the Koinadugu District and has spent more than 30 years preserving cultural heritage through the traditional weaving of kontri clothes.

According to Njai, Madam Kamara’s work represents the strength of African culture and the importance of passing indigenous knowledge from one generation to another. Her role at the festival will focus on culture, craftsmanship, and heritage as part of leadership and innovation conversations.

She is expected to facilitate sessions at the 8th Project 1808 National Science and Leadership Festival, scheduled to take place from Wednesday, January 14 to Saturday, January 16 at the Koinadugu College – Red Cross Campus in Kabala.

The festival will feature three days of activities covering Science, Technology, Engineering, Environment, Arts, Mathematics, and Medicine (STEAMM), alongside leadership, entrepreneurship, and culture.

This year’s theme is “STEAM and Leadership: Breaking Barriers – Building on the African Cultural Foundation for Innovation, Entrepreneurship, Environmental Sustainability, Research and Development in Sierra Leone and Africa.”

Organisers say the inclusion of cultural practitioners like Madam Kamara reflects Project 1808’s commitment to blending science and innovation with Africa’s rich cultural foundations.
