A matter involving members of the Sierra Leone Police and a businessman and APC flagbearer aspirant, Sheikh Alhaji Mohamed Omodu Kamara, or Jagaban, occurred on Sunday, the 11th of January 2026, at the Wellington Industrial Zone in eastern Freetown.

According to information released by supporters and witnesses, Jagaban was at his private property, the former NATCO factory, to watch a sacrificial ritual performed by Muslims in preparation for any subsequent refurbishment works that would take place. The property is said to have been lawfully acquired and is expected to be converted into a bus depot once vehicles he has ordered arrive from China.

Reports indicate that police officers arrived at the location during the ceremony and dispersed those present using tear gas. The action reportedly caused panic among attendees and brought the religious activity to an abrupt end. No official statement has yet been released by the police explaining the reason for the intervention.

Locals in the region were worried about the incident, as the event had been peaceful and of a religious setup. Locals wondered whether force had been used in place of dialogue, considering the event was being carried out on private property.

Jagaban supporters had also cited other incidents in which scheduled activities related to his enterprising exploits had been interrupted, such as a previous one at the site of his factory at Mile 38.

The event has brought back the debate on freedom of religious practice, the exercise of police power, and communication between the citizenry and the police. People are urging the police to explain the incident and ensure that all matters relating to religious and business activities are conducted in a legal and respectful manner.
