The National Sports Authority (NSA) has handed out cash prizes to the winners of the first-ever Inter-Ministry, Department and Agency Football Gala, following the tournament’s conclusion on Sunday at the Stadium Practising Field.

During a brief ceremony at the NSA headquarters on Signal Hill Road, the Office of the Vice President received one hundred thousand Leones as the tournament’s champions. The Ministry of Finance collected seventy thousand Leones for finishing second, while the National Pensioners Regulatory Authority (NPRA) secured fifty thousand Leones for third place.

Deputy Executive Director of the NSA, Dr. Abdul Rahman Swaray, described the presentation as a sign of the Authority’s commitment to fulfilling its promises. He noted that the gala’s debut was only the beginning, adding that next year’s edition is expected to be much bigger.

NSA Board Chairman, Ibrahim Nyelenkeh, called the event a significant moment for the institution. He praised the Executive Director, Dr. Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai, for what he referred to as a bold and refreshing initiative, stressing that the Authority remains dedicated to uplifting sports and public engagement across the country.

Dr. Abdulai highlighted that the financial awards reflect the NSA’s effort to maintain transparency and accountability in its work. He also referred to ongoing sports infrastructure projects, including the Kailahun Artificial Turf and similar developments in Mattru Jong and Tihun, adding that these facilities are being delivered without placing additional strain on the government budget. Representing the winners, Osman Banya, Assistant to the Secretary to the Vice President of Sierra Leone, expressed thanks on behalf of his team and praised the NSA for creating an opportunity that brought together different government institutions through sport. The Inter-MDA Football Gala is a touted annual event meant to foster camaraderie, physical well-being, and synergy within the public institutions.
