In a decisive move to curb the rampant circulation of illegal narcotics, notably kush, within the East End police division, a significant operation unfolded on Thursday, March 21st, 2024.
Between the hours of 11:00 and 15:00, a coordinated raid was executed at strategic locations including Lumley Street, Low-cost Street, Magazine Community, and Mercer Street. Led by Operations Officer DSP Septimus Siaka Vandi, known as Karafilow, and his team comprising various units such as the Media, CDIID, IIS, OPS, and OSDs, the operation operated under the supervision of Support Officer Supt. Unisa Turay and local unit commander ACP Esther Mary Saffa.
During the operation, notorious drug kingpin Nyakeh John Idriss, based at 9 Low-cost Street, along with several accomplices including Alhaji Fofonah of 7 Sitthorphe Street, Mohamed Bangura of 28 Magazine, Osman Tarawally of 7 Free Street, Idriss Kamara of 5 Government Wharf, Alusine Kamara of 9 Low-cost Street, Osman Bangura of 20 Magazine, Abdul Rahman Kaywulay of 14 Kennedy Street, and Sulaiman Koroma of 39 Easton Street were apprehended. Authorities seized a significant quantity of tramadol and dried leaves suspected to be kush during the raid.
The suspects were promptly taken into custody on charges of unlawful possession.
Additionally, ten individuals were arrested for being found in areas utilized for drug consumption.
As a deterrent measure, makeshift drug dens in these localities were demolished to dissuade further illicit activities.
The Criminal Investigations Department at the East End station has taken charge of the ongoing investigation.
