Earth Tremor in Makeni.

Makeni City, Sierra Leone – Residents of Makeni City, particularly in the Fullah Town community, experienced a suspected earth tremor early Yesterday the Second Day of August 2024 at around 9:00 am, accompanied by a loud sound. The National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) has swiftly deployed its staff to assess and address the situation.

Initial reports confirm that the suspected tremor and noise were reported not only in Fullah Town but also in neighboring areas such as Cemetery Road and the Central Business Area. Despite the widespread sensation, there have been no immediate indications of structural damage. No visible cracks in the ground or buildings have been observed, and no boulders have been displaced.

NDMA personnel are actively conducting interviews and investigations to determine the cause of the tremor. As of now, the source remains undetermined. The agency is in close contact with national authorities and has requested the intervention of geoscientists to offer further analysis and support.

The NDMA is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of the residents and will continue to monitor the situation closely. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
