Sierra Leone’s National Youth Commission (NaYCOM) has signed a new service agreement with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) for a second phase of vocational skills training for returned migrants and vulnerable young people.
Under the agreement, 300 beneficiaries will train at NaYCOM’s Obasanjo Skills Training College in Newton. Another 35 young people in Makeni and 35 in Bo will receive technical and entrepreneurial training designed around market demand.
The new phase follows an initial programme that, according to NaYCOM, equipped more than 500 returned migrants and vulnerable youth with practical skills for employment and self-reliance.
The training forms part of the European Union-funded Migrant Protection, Return and Reintegration Programme for Sub-Saharan Africa. NaYCOM said the renewed partnership reflects confidence in its ability to deliver youth empowerment programmes and reaffirmed its commitment to expanding access to skills and opportunities.
