Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai, Chairman of the National Sports Authority, took center stage on Saturday as he officially kicked off the Director Korji Community League in Limba Corner, Rokel Village. The event drew hundreds of community members and football enthusiasts, creating a festive atmosphere that underscored the significance of sports as a tool for social engagement and transformation.
In his opening address, Abdulai used the platform to deliver a powerful message against drug abuse, urging players and spectators alike to reject drugs, especially the substance known as kush. He emphasized the dangers associated with drug use and encouraged the youth to focus on positive activities, such as sports, to build a better future for themselves and their communities.
“Say no to drugs and resist the temptation of kush,” Abdulai advised the crowd, highlighting the government’s commitment to youth development. He conveyed that President Maada Bio places a high priority on the welfare of the nation’s youth and views sports as a vital instrument for social change and empowerment.
Abdulai also took the opportunity to express his appreciation to Dr. Korji and the community for organizing the league, recognizing their efforts as a significant contribution to the development of youth sports. In a gesture of support, he pledged to sponsor the upcoming Under-15 tournament, aiming to provide more opportunities for young football talents to thrive.
The launch of the Director Korji Community League reflects a growing trend in Sierra Leone where sports are increasingly being used to foster unity, development, and positive social change. As the league progresses, it is expected to serve not just as a platform for athletic competition, but also as a means to address critical social issues affecting the nation’s youth.
The event marked a significant moment for Rokel Village and the surrounding communities, as it brought together local leaders, young athletes, and supporters in a shared commitment to promote a healthier and more vibrant future through sports.
