Immanuel and Carolyn Patton, a mother-son duo from Maryland, United States, made history by receiving their bachelor’s degrees simultaneously from the University of Maryland. This incredible success was a result of a promise Immanuel made to his mother at the tender age of five.

“I remember I just told my mom … one day, it’s gonna be you and me. We’re going to get our degrees at the same time,” Immanuel Patton, age 23, told GMA. Carolyn Patton, now 63, noted that she had tried to pursue a Bachelor’s degree back in 1995, but life got in the way. Then Immanuel re- sparked the conversation, never allowing for the promise to die. “That promise … he never allowed it to die. It was continuously, ‘You know, mom, we’re gonna do this’,” she said.

Both were drawn to the University of Maryland Global Campus since its well-known for specializing in online degree programs. On May 15th, the Patton’s achieved their long-standing goal and finished their Bachelor’s degrees together. What a remarkable achievement!
