The Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chernor Bah, has been named Minister of the Year 2025 by the Marampa Legendary Awards in recognition of his leadership and public service.

The award was presented on Friday night in Lunsar, Port Loko District, at a ceremony attended by academics, health workers, political figures, youth leaders, and community members from across the region.

Speaking after receiving the award, Minister Bah thanked the organisers and described the honour as meaningful, especially because it came from a community-based initiative outside Freetown.

“This shows that the work we are doing is being felt beyond the capital,” he said. “It is even more special because the recognition comes from young people who are working hard to bring positive change to their communities.”

During his remarks, the minister called on young people to remain united and to reject drug abuse and violence.

“Our government appreciates the role young people are playing in promoting peace,” he said. “No matter our political or social differences, Sierra Leone must always come first. Say no to violence and stay away from drugs.”

Minister Bah also used the event to announce the introduction of Sierra Leone’s first National Remembrance Day, declared by President Julius Maada Bio.

He said January 18 will be observed each year as National Remembrance Day, with activities running from January 14 to January 21. These activities will include a nationwide two-minute moment of silence, the wearing of white ribbons, and the creation of Remembrance Walls in communities across the country.
