The Makeni City Council, in partnership with the Local Government Revenue Initiative (LoGRI) and the International Growth Centre (IGC), has successfully trained 125 residents of Makeni to support vital property and business license tax reforms. Out of this group, 80 individuals were selected as enumerators after passing rigorous examinations, with an additional 10 participants held in reserve in case of any changes to the team.

On Tuesday, October 15, 2024, the 80 selected enumerators will be equipped with tablets and will begin a city-wide data collection exercise. They will gather property features from homes and businesses across Makeni, including areas near the district borders. The data collected will play a crucial role in establishing a fair and transparent tax system, aiming to improve the efficiency of revenue collection for the city.

The Makeni City Council and Bombali District Council are calling on all residents to cooperate fully with the enumerators by granting access to their properties for the accurate collection of property details. This exercise, which is expected to conclude on December 21, 2024, will help in the creation of an equitable tax system that benefits all residents.

“By cooperating in this exercise, residents are not only contributing to the creation of a fair tax system but also helping build a future where the city can better meet their needs,” said Edward Kpuukumu, Information, Education, and Communications Officer of the Makeni City Council.

The Makeni City Council remains committed to enhancing service delivery and ensuring that every Leone collected in taxes goes toward building a brighter, more prosperous city for all its residents.
