Partial Lift of Nationwide Curfew in Sierra Leone as Security Forces Crack Down on Assailants
Sierra Leone is set to partially lift the nationwide curfew on Monday morning as security forces continue their efforts to apprehend unidentified gunmen who attacked the capital city on Sunday. President Julius Maada Bio announced in a national address on Sunday evening that many of the military leaders involved have been arrested, and investigations are ongoing.
“We will ensure that those responsible are held accountable,” assured President Bio, emphasizing that calm has been restored. He urged citizens to remain vigilant and cooperate with the security forces.
The Ministry of Information and Civic Education, representing the Government of Sierra Leone, issued a public notice to update the public on the previously imposed nationwide curfew. As of 6:00 a.m on November 27th, 2023, the indefinite curfew is officially lifted. However, a new curfew will be in place from 9:00 p.m to 6:00 a.m every day, starting on Tuesday, November 27th, 2023. This measure will remain in effect until further notice.
The Ministry expressed gratitude to the public for their cooperation and support in swiftly addressing the situation. While citizens are encouraged to resume their normal activities from 6:00 a.m on Monday, November 27th, 2023, they are reminded to remain calm and vigilant. The public is urged to report any suspicious or unusual activity to the nearest police station.
