An exceptional Nigerian lady, Ihetu Chimdinma Adaugo has conquered all the challenges she faced during her undergraduate study to bag a Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering from the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) located in Nigeria.

Chimdinma narrated that she faced a lot of challenges in her early days as an undergraduate most especially the death of both her parents. She could not withstand the effect of their deaths, forcing her to drop out of Medical school where she was studying Medicine in 300 Level.

She tried to re-enroll for Medicine after she dropped out but could not meet the required score. She later opted to enroll for Biomedical Technology because to her, it seemed like the closest thing to Medicine & Surgery.

She however noted that Biomedical Engineering is far different from Medicine and Surgery as she fought on with the course taking Medical courses, Engineering courses and Science courses simultaneously.

Due to the outbreak of the pandemic, she had to spend 6 years for the program but in the end graduated as the best graduating of Biomedical Technology in her 2019/2020 set.

“6 years (due to Corona) of combining Medical courses, Engineering courses and science courses. 10 years after secondary school, here I am to say thank God for this achievement. I made it, the best graduating student of Biomedical Technology 2019/2020 set,” she wrote on her Linkedin profile.

The study of Biomedical Engineering or Medical Engineering entails the application of engineering principles and design concepts to medicine and biology for healthcare purposes. Biomedical Engineering (BME) is also traditionally known as “bioengineering” (Wikipedia).
