In line with President Julius Maada Bio’s devotion to shape the Country’s private sector for better contribution towards the economy, Sierra Leone’s Minister of Employment Labour and Social Services Mohamed Rahman Swaray has today held fruitful discussions with top foreign business executives to inform them about the review of the Country’s working permits between employees and employers.
Mr. Swaray cited vital points about the importance of the working permits towards ensuring the improvement of the socioeconomic development of the country’s industrial sector.
Meanwhile, the new 2022 Working permits act, advocated for those companies to train Sierra Leoneans to suit in those positions of expatriates, thereby reducing heavy financial burden on the companies and increasing employee productivity and good working efficiency.
All of those CEOs who were present in the meeting agreed with the minister that they would work with the government to ensure that they bridged the gaps, even though, it will take them some time to reach the fully required threshold due to the manner of employees attitudes towards delivering on their companies obligations.
Minister Swaray concluded that, the government is not in any way discouraging them from hiring foreign workers because Sierra Leone is part of many treaties in the world, and that there are many Sierra Leoneans who are also working in Foreign countries.
