The Indian High Commission in Freetown, Sierra Leone, has marked Hindi Day 2026 with poetry recitations, essay writing and speech competitions, highlighting the role of Indian languages in preserving culture and connecting generations.
Organised as part of Hindi Pakhwada, the celebration brought together participants to showcase their creativity and appreciation for Hindi through literary and cultural activities.
During the event, Neeraj Kumar Saini, Chargé d’Affaires of the Indian High Commission, read the Hindi Day 2026 message to the gathering.
Special guest Jagannath Mohan, a promoter of the Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh in East and West Africa, spoke about the importance of Hindi and other Indian languages in sustaining India’s linguistic and cultural heritage.
He emphasised the need to pass on cultural values to younger generations through Indian languages, encouraging efforts to preserve and promote this heritage.
Participants took part in Hindi poetry recitation, essay writing and speech competitions, expressing their ideas and demonstrating their interest in the language.
The celebration highlighted Hindi’s role beyond everyday communication, recognising its connection to literature, identity and shared cultural traditions. It also underscored the value of India’s diverse languages and the importance of keeping them alive for future generations.
