Indian All-Party Delegation Visits Sierra Leone to Rally Global Support Against Terrorism

An Indian All-Party Parliamentary Delegation led by Dr. Shrikant Eknath Shinde, Member of India’s Lok Sabha, visited Sierra Leone from May 28 to 30, 2025, as part of India’s intensified diplomatic outreach following the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. The visit aimed to mobilize international solidarity and raise global awareness on the urgent need to combat terrorism.

During the high-level visit, the Indian delegation held a series of extensive meetings with Sierra Leonean government officials, lawmakers, and national security leaders. Key engagements included discussions with the Speaker of Parliament, Members of Parliament and the Committee on Foreign Affairs, the Deputy Minister of Defence, the National Security Coordinator, the Acting Foreign Minister, and the Vice President of Sierra Leone.

At each meeting, the delegation emphasized India’s firm zero-tolerance stance on terrorism and called for unified global action to confront and eliminate terrorist threats. In a significant gesture of support, Sierra Leone’s Parliament officially condemned the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, observing a moment of silence in honor of the victims.

Vice President of Sierra Leone expressed his nation’s deep condolences over the loss of lives in the attack and reaffirmed Sierra Leone’s solidarity with India in the fight against terrorism. Deputy Defence Minister Col. (Retd.) Muana Brima Massaquoi also strongly condemned the act of terrorism, stressing the growing need for African countries to stand together against terrorism. He warned that failure to act could see similar threats spread to the African continent.

The delegation further engaged with foreign diplomats based in Sierra Leone, seeking to strengthen international resolve against cross-border terrorism and to pressure nations that harbor or support terrorist activities. The meetings included calls for stronger international collaboration through bodies such as the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), and other global forums.

In addition, the delegation reached out to the local media and the Indian diaspora community in Sierra Leone, reaffirming the longstanding friendship between the two nations. Speaking during a live interview with AYV News, delegation member Dr. Sasmit Patra urged Pakistan to end state-sponsored terrorism, a message that resonated strongly with the local audience.

The visit concluded with a resounding call for greater international coordination to isolate and punish those responsible for acts of terrorism and to ensure lasting global peace and security.
