The Indian High Commission in Sierra Leone has bid farewell to the first batch of 20 Sierra Leonean students travelling to India to pursue undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD studies in some of the country’s top universities.
The students are recipients of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) scholarship, a programme through which India offers 37 full scholarships to Sierra Leonean students every year.
According to the High Commission, the initiative reflects the growing educational and cultural ties between the two countries. It provides Sierra Leonean students with an opportunity to gain international exposure and access quality higher education in India.
The students are expected to study across diverse fields, including science, technology, medicine, and social sciences. The scholarships cover tuition, accommodation, and other essential support for the duration of their courses.
India has been one of Sierra Leone’s key partners in human capital development, with many Sierra Leoneans graduating from Indian institutions over the years.
