The High Commission of India in Sierra Leone has led a large-scale clean-up of Lumley Beach in Freetown as part of a global campaign to promote environmental hygiene.

The exercise, held on Thursday 25 September, was organised under India’s Swachhotsav – Swachhata Hi Seva 2025 campaign. It was carried out in partnership with the National Tourist Board of Sierra Leone and the Freetown City Council.

Dozens of volunteers, including members of the Indian diaspora, local community groups and physically challenged people, joined the drive. Organisers said their involvement gave the event a “strong boost”.

Premier Enviro Solutions supported the clean-up by collecting plastic waste for recycling. Choithrams, KADCO, Em Kay Store, SV Electrical and Shree Gurudwara Sahib Lumley also provided contributions and active participation.

The National Tourist Board and the City Council supplied equipment, vehicles and volunteers to make the exercise possible.

The High Commission said the clean-up demonstrated the “shared commitment” of India and Sierra Leone to protect the environment and keep public spaces clean.
