Ideal Technology, a community-driven organization in Sierra Leone’s Bo District, has taken innovative strides to improve educational access by distributing 200 solar-powered backpacks to students in Gondama Timbo, Sembehun Kokofela, and Kangaa. This initiative addresses critical challenges posed by unreliable electricity, which affects students’ ability to study after dark. In many rural communities across Sierra Leone, electricity remains a scarce resource, often impacting student performance due to limited study time and minimal access to educational resources.
Under the leadership of CEO Peter George, Ideal Technology recognized that rural students in these communities face unique challenges. With no steady power supply, these students are often unable to study effectively in the evenings, which hinders their learning progress and lowers their chances of success in exams and assessments. By equipping them with solar backpacks, Ideal Technology has provided a simple yet impactful solution, enabling students to use solar-powered lighting from their backpacks to study and complete homework after the sun sets.
