Hon Alhaji Musa Tarawalie Backs Cooperative Loan Scheme in Falaba District

The Falaba District Cooperative Society has officially started the disbursement of loans to beneficiaries across Falaba District, in a move aimed at boosting grassroots economic activity and supporting small businesses in rural communities.

The loan disbursement began on Sunday, January 11, 2026, in Mongo Chiefdom, with support from Hon Alhaji Musa Tarawalie. Community members described the initiative as a timely intervention, especially for small-scale traders and entrepreneurs who often struggle to access financial support.

Officials of the cooperative society said the scheme is designed to strengthen local businesses, improve livelihoods, and promote financial independence among residents of the district. They stressed that the funds are not political handouts or campaign-related support, but part of a structured and sustainable loan programme.

According to the cooperative, beneficiaries are required to repay the loans with agreed interest, in line with the society’s guidelines. Officials said this approach is meant to promote responsible borrowing and ensure the long-term sustainability of the revolving loan scheme.

Speaking during the launch in Mongo Chiefdom, cooperative representatives explained that the programme is non-partisan and inclusive. They said beneficiaries are selected based on need and economic activity, without consideration of political affiliation, religion, or background.

A major focus of the scheme is women’s economic empowerment. The cooperative said priority is being given to women involved in income-generating activities, recognising their important role in household welfare, local trade, and community development. By supporting women-led businesses, the initiative aims to stimulate broader economic growth and improve family incomes across the district.

Community leaders praised Hon Alhaji Musa Tarawalie for supporting what they described as a development-focused initiative centred on self-reliance and accountability. They noted that limited access to affordable credit remains one of the biggest challenges facing rural entrepreneurs in Falaba District.

Several beneficiaries, including small traders and farmers, expressed appreciation for the support and pledged to use the loans responsibly. Cooperative officials also urged recipients to meet repayment terms so that more people can benefit from the scheme in the future.

The Falaba District Cooperative Society said it remains committed to transparency and fair distribution of resources. With continued cooperation and responsible use of the funds, the society believes the programme will contribute to poverty reduction, business growth, and long-term community development across Falaba District.
