From Kono Streets to Global Courtrooms: Janet Momoh Makes History with Triple Bar Admission

A Sierra Leonean lawyer, Janet Momoh, has reached a major career milestone after being called to the Bar on three continents.

Ms Momoh says she is now admitted to practise law in Europe, Africa and North America, making her the first practising Sierra Leonean lawyer in Alberta, Canada.

She grew up in Kono District, in eastern Sierra Leone, and says her journey shows that where a person starts in life does not limit how far they can go.

Speaking in a personal reflection, Ms Momoh said few would have imagined that a young girl playing on the streets of Kono would one day appear in courtrooms across the world.

She has been admitted to the Bar in England and Wales, Sierra Leone and Canada.

Ms Momoh said each country shaped her in different ways. England and Wales taught her discipline and respect for legal tradition. Sierra Leone taught her resilience, justice and the importance of community. Canada, she said, pushed her to aim for professional excellence while serving people from different backgrounds.

She described her journey as one built on hard work, patience and strong belief.

Ms Momoh also thanked her family, friends and mentors for supporting her over the past nine years. She said her faith gave her the strength to keep moving forward.
