From Ibadan to the USA Today marks a special milestone in Olayemi Ojeokun’s life. It has been one month since she left Nigeria to pursue a graduate degree at Kansas State University in the United States. Olayemi was determined to make the dream of studying abroad a reality before completing her undergraduate studies.
With an eye towards growing into an international setting and cutting edge skills, Olayemi started her academic journey in her native Osun State University. Despite not being able to earn a first–class degree, Olayemi finished with honors and a commitment to bringing her dream to life.
From there, she was able to participate in several internships with the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture. This experience solidified her commitment to pursuing her international degree and eventually, this zeal paid off. After receiving numerous rejection letters, Olayemi decided to take a leap of faith.
She wrote a letter to God asking for a 2022 gift and her courage and dedication was matched by her faith. Today, Olayemi is ecstatic about what she has experienced in the past month. As the first African student of her advisor, Olayemi has had the chance to interact with people from all corners of the world and enjoy the cultural diversity of a world–renowned university.
She has expressed her gratitude to her family, friends, lecturers, and mentors on LinkedIn who have been with her through an incredible journey. Finally, she has left words of encouragement to everyone looking to make their dreams come true to never give up. As the story of Olayemi’s achievements demonstrate, even if your tongue fails you, writing to God can lead to amazing blessings in your life.
