Former National Secretary-General of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), Umaru Napoleon Koroma, has denied social media claims suggesting that funds “vanished” from the party’s account during his time in office.

In a statement, Mr Koroma said no money went missing and that all expenses under his leadership followed proper procedures and were backed by legitimate documents. He described the claims circulating online as baseless.

He welcomed the decision of the new SLPP executive to conduct an audit of his administration, saying it would confirm the transparency with which the finances were managed. He highlighted, for example, that one million new leones raised during the Bintumani Conference was deposited into the party’s account.

Mr Koroma also urged party members and leaders to be careful with public statements that could damage the reputation of individuals who have worked for the party, especially during difficult times. He warned that such comments risk creating unnecessary divisions within the SLPP.

He called on members to focus on preparations for the 2028 elections and to help protect the legacy of President Julius Maada Bio.

Mr Koroma said he remains proud of his service to the party and is willing to continue supporting the SLPP whenever needed. He ended by extending holiday greetings and wishing the public a prosperous 2026.
