The Freetown City Council (FCC) has engaged market women across three major markets to raise awareness about the city’s new sanitation byelaws and the 8244 toll-free line.
Sixty market women from Kennedy Street, Portee and Low Cost markets took part in the session, supported by The Carter Center through the Inform Women, Transform Lives campaign.
Officials explained how the 8244 line gives residents easy access to waste management information. Many women shared concerns about waste in their markets and suggested better ways to work with FCC.
The outreach also supports the global 16 Days of Activism, helping women access clear information to improve decision-making and strengthen their role in community development.
Councillors Amadu Kargbo, Agnes Marrah, Hakiratu Maxwell Caulker, and Augustine Kamara attended the engagement.
