Fatima Maada Bio, First Lady of Sierra Leone and President of Organization of African First Ladies for Development, has called for the responsible and inclusive use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) during a high-level global summit held at the White House.

Speaking at the Fostering the Future Together Global Coalition Summit—an initiative of Melania Trump—Dr Bio joined seven other global leaders to discuss the opportunities and challenges linked to the fast-growing use of AI.

During her address, she stressed that while AI has the power to transform societies, it must be developed in a way that benefits everyone. She highlighted the importance of ensuring that women and young people, especially in Africa, are not left behind in the digital future.

Drawing from her leadership at OAFLAD, Dr Bio called for people-focused innovation that promotes fairness, strengthens education systems, and protects key societal values. She noted that technology should be used as a tool to empower communities rather than widen inequality.

The summit brought together representatives from more than 40 countries, alongside global technology partners, to explore how international cooperation can shape a future where AI supports inclusive development and creates opportunities for the next generation.

Dr Bio’s remarks added to growing global conversations on the need for ethical AI policies that prioritise human impact, particularly in developing regions.
